Drawing a maze

inspiration_blueprint_chalk_maze_animation_final

The Drawing a Maze activity is easy to do at the drop of a hat. Instead of putting pen to paper, put chalk to playground and get lost drawing your own labyrinth.

  • Find an open space of playground without any markings on the floor.
  • Take some coloured chalk to draw with. You can use whatever colours you like, but it helps to have a mixture.
  • Start by drawing the central pattern of a cross with outer corners and dots (just like in step one of the picture).
  • Join the top left with the right-hand side of the cross in one sweeping arch.
  • Fill out the rest of the curves until your maze looks like the final diagram.
  • If you’re feeling adventurous, make your maze more elaborate by making it up as you go along (with dead ends and secret hideaways).
  • When it’s ready, take turns to explore your way around with friends.
