Play Australia is an organisation that has been advocating the value of providing safe and developmentally appropriate opportunities for children in the inner cities to play in communities throughout Australia for over 100 years. It’s safe to say, they understand the vital role play has in children’s lives, especially those who live in urban city areas.
In 2009, the Children’s Services Regulations in Victoria, Australia specified that each child service provider had to include an outdoor space where children could explore and experience the natural environment. It also held that these spaces where to stimulate and encourage situations where children would interact with their natural environment on a daily basis.
Play Australia has created a film and other great resources to inspire the creation and improvement of outdoor nature play spaces.
